Newfoundland

Newfoundland

Newfoundland is a large island off the east coast of Canada. Long inhabited by the indigenous peoples of the Dorset culture, the island was abandoned when visited by the Icelandic Viking Leif Erikson (who called it "Vinland") in the 11th century. Since then, small communities of hardy settlers have populated the coasts - eking out a living from the waters and forests. Many of these small "outports" have now been abandoned, but provide a reminder of the difficult life of these early inhabitants.

The Newfoundland sea kayaking trips provide a glimpse into the past, as well as allowing exploration of rugged and unique coastlines.
