LOWER FRENCH RIVER/BUSTARD ISLAND -- The granite archipelago of the Lower French River is a perfect kayaking environment. Tracing part of the historic Fur Trade route, we will start at Hartley Bay and head down the Old Voyageur channel to the Bay. Meandering through the ‘Fingerboards’, we’ll make the crossing to the Bustard Islands, a few kilometres off shore, and enjoy the rugged beauty of Georgian Bay. We will then return inland up the main channel. We will camp on beautiful rocky islands. There will be a few easy ‘portages’ around swifts and rapids such as Daffles Rapids, Devil Door Rapids and Liley Chutes, depending on our exact route. This trip is great for the novice or intermediate kayaker.
