SOUTH
GREENLAND --
The warm southern tip is the only part of Greenland
with significant open land and green hills to set
off the mountains and glaciers. We’ll hike
beside protected fjords, see immense ice bergs,
climb picturesque valleys and discover modern Greenlander’s
farms amongst the archaeology of lost Viking settlements.
We’ll camp at remote, pristine sites, hike
to fantastic peaks overlooking the ice cap and
enjoy the warmth of a South Greenland summer. All
around us is evidence of the Dorset people, the
Vikings, The Thule and the modern Greenlander.
It is a place where farms and wilderness, mountains
and sea, and the past and the present are intwined
in one of the most unusual places on the earth.
We
have kayaked here for many years and longed to
explore the lands beyond the coast. You will
be the first Black Feather group to backpack
the area. Based on your experiences in this beautiful
location we’ll refine the itinerary for a
future Black Feather hikes. With changes and discoveries
inherent in an exploratory trip, you should be
resourceful and flexible to join this hike.
