MEXICO'S SILVER TRAIL--
Northern Mexico's Copper Canyon region is a wild tangle of intricate pine and oak covered mountain ranges incised by frighteningly deep canyons - 5 are larger than the Grand Canyon. Much of the area remains roadless and undeveloped Indigenous Tarahumaras live by means of subsistence farming. In the heart of the region are two silver mining towns were founded by Spaniards in the early 17th century. All goods, services, visitors and citizens traveling in and out of the canyon journeyed along a 165 km footpath; 'La Ruta de la Plata' or the Silver Trail.
Now this trail is a remarkable trekking route - a combination of constantly changing landscapes, reliable sunny climate, intriguing indigenous Tarahumara culture, and a rich history. We will hike through remote and rugged mountain and canyon country ending in comfortable accommodations in a subtropical colonial mining town. Camp near thermal springs and remote farming villages. Hike10-15 km per day without major elevation gain along slick rock footpaths, sometimes 50 cm deep as a result of wear from iron mule shoes, retracing a route where some 1 billion ounces of pure silver was transported. The Silver Trail Trek is a must do for adventurers seeking a genuinely unique experience in the Copper Canyon.
