AUYUITTUQ GETAWAY-- The Auyuittuq Getaway is a perfect chance for a taste of true Arctic! It is a 10 day circuit in the Weasel River Valley of Auyuittuq Park. From the Inuit town of Pangnirtung we take a boat to Overlord warden station, the southern entrance to the pass. Along the route we follow the Inukshuks which indicate safe routes across moraines and rivers. Just before we reach the Windy Lake warden station we cross the Arctic Circle. It is marked with an Inukshuk, a human shaped cairn of rock. We set up a basecamp and explore the area on a couple of day hikes. By crossing the river on a suspension bridge we can reach Windy Lake, Schwarzenbach Falls and we can even hike right to the base of a glacier. Our turnaround point will be at the base of Thor peak which soars 1500 metres up out of the valley floor. It has the longest uninterrupted cliff face in the world. With much lighter packs we’ll hike back to Overlord to meet our boat shuttle.

Beautiful scenery, helping each other on river crossings and great meals make this trip is a wonderful holiday for the beginner hiker.
