SPANISH RIVER --
The Spanish River runs through the Canadian Shield, in “Grey Owl’s” country
north of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. The east arm starts at Duke Lake and drops
through a series of lakes interspersed with easy rapids at the beginning. This
is perfect for practising canoeing stokes and introductory whitewater skills.
The river then changes character and flows through a tighter river bed. We will
stop to scout, practice and hone our whitewater manouevers. Numerous rapids and
swifts make this an excellent paddling adventure. We will be paddling through
typical Canadian Shield terrain - huge white pine forests, mixed with spruce,
maple, birch and aspen. We’ll see moose, beaver and the occasional black
bear. There will be time for swimming, contemplation and sharing the fun with
fellow ‘trippers’.
