GREEN
RIVER, UTAH (SOAR) --
The Green is Utah's major river. We paddle an exciting
140 km stretch from Sand Wash through Desolation
and Gray Canyons, which are often deeper than the
Grand Canyon, to our take out near the town of
Green River. Cutting through spectacular redrock
scenery, we will find verdant landscapes, colourful
rock formations and a variety of wildlife including
deer, bighorn sheep, bear and beaver. We take frequent
hikes into the many side canyons. We’ll see
the remains of a pioneer ranch, evidence of an
ancient Indian civilization in the form of granaries
and petroglyphs and perhaps dinosaur fossils. The
river is suited to both novice and experienced
paddlers. We start with paddling instruction. The
route begins with easy current, then we see small
rapids which build in intensity as the trip progresses.
By the final two days, we’re ready for some
exciting bigger drops. Beautiful white, sandy beaches
offer ideal camping sites at the end of each day,
where we will relax and watch the play of light
on the canyon walls, enjoy a sumptuous dinner and
lie beneath a star-studded sky. Please note: minimum
number 10, maximum number 12. Trip run in co-operation
with Canyon Expeditions/Ross River Company.
