BURNSIDE RIVER --
The Burnside River is a classic tundra river flowing into the Arctic Ocean at
Bathurst Inlet. Isolated and rugged, it offers class I and
II whitewater and opportunities to see caribou, muskox and
possibly arctic wolves. The landscape is dramatic, with rolling
tundra punctuated by narrow canyons, waterfalls and sandy beaches.
There are lots of good hiking opportunities. After portaging
spectacular Burnside Canyon, the trip ends at Bathurst Inlet
Lodge. This little traveled route is in an area of profound
isolation.
